The prophet Micah has a very important question to ask you before you go on this mission experience: Why does God want you to be a part of this trip? You can find the answer to Micah's questions in the Bible, Micah 6:8 -- The Lord requires you to DO JUSTICE (fairness), LOVE MERCY (kindness) and WALK HUMBLY with your God (openly surrendered). We call them experiences because it is more than a mission "trip".
The term trip indicates a final departure date, as if you were leaving and never returning. We like to refer to mission experiences as more than a trip, because for those who return from short-term mission experiences will often tell you that it was a challenging week, but in the next breath they'll say something like: "It was one of the best experiences of my life."
Mission experiences from St. Luke's have traveled to south Florida (Florida City), Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Northern Ireland, and soon to the continent of Africa, to Ethiopia. Each mission experience will begin with an interest meeting followed by one or two meetings per month in preparation for the journey. A commitment of 20-plus hours for preparation is an expectation, as well as five to seven days for the experience itself. Most of the mission experiences are a week in length.
